Review: Clash of Clans

Clash of Clans is a strategy based game which centers around building up a base in a persistent online environment and then defending it from other players who try to steal your resources.

The game is very addicting and keeps you engaged throughout the day. I find myself playing it in short bursts throughout the entire day. If you are into strategy games or city management this game is a good fit for you. The simple game interface is packed with tons of options for different ways to play the game. Battling online players appears to offer up a different game every time since bases are rarely the same design layout. A recent update called Clan Wars, allows players to join teams and battle against other clans. To be a top performing clan requires good communication between teammates using the in game chat system.

There are not many negatives to the game, but as you continue to advance your base with upgrades expect long wait times. When you first start out in the game some upgrades only take a few minutes to a few hours. As you get higher up in the game you can expect to wait days at a time for a builder to finish your desired upgrade.

If long wait times are not your thing you always have the option to finish the upgrade now, but it will cost you. The game uses a system of in game coinage called “Gems.” You can purchase gems in bulk from the app store or wait long enough and the game will donate free gems over time. The gem donation is a nice feature but you only get a handful at a time and to finish an upgrade early can be very costly. If you are an impatient person, you can expect to be opening up your wallet. However, the flip-side to this is if you are okay waiting for things to upgrade, you can get away with playing the game entirely for free. The nice thing is the creators of the game did not limit any features of the gameplay by the need to have gamers spend their hard earned money.

The game boosts lots of positives in my opinion and new updates are happening very regularly by the developers. If you are looking for a game to challenge your wit and test your abilities try giving Clash of Clans a try and tell us what you think.
