The gameplay begins shortly after the events depicted in the original 1977 film, A New Hope. Once you start playing the game it will ask you to pick your side. Users have the option to join the Empire or Rebellion. This decision offers a different storyline and gameplay, which is a unique touch put out by Disney’s game division. Once you’ve joined a campaign you must build and defend your base.

If you are familiar with Clash of Clans you will advance quickly as the game mimics the same gameplay style.

Star Wars Commander for iOS has a lot of potential to be a great game, but the developer certainly has their work cut out for them to fix some of the core issues.

  • The in game chat has a tendency to delete posted messages at random.
  • Occasionally your team members may request troops from you, but the donate button is inactive. Leaving you unable to help them out.
  • While typing your chat message it does not limit the amount of characters in your message, but after posting it will cut off your sentences if they are too long.
  • The cost to train troops is very expensive and there appears to be no cost effective way to raid. Doing some simple math pointed out that if I trained all tanks vs. all Stromtroopers it came out to equal the same final cost. The only way to raid effectively is to not deploy all your troops.
  • The game is currently unbalanced. If you are not careful you will end up deploying more troops than you are actually earning in your raiding.
  • The trophy counts seem confusing at present time. I have seen a loss take -30 to -50, but a win of only +1 to +4.
  • Sharing a replay of an attack or defense with your squad often posts the replay more than once.

At the core of the game it seems like a total re-skin of Clash of Clans by SuperCell. Likely due to the success of Clash of Clans, Disney is trying to capitalize on the same market share.

The release of the film, Star Wars: Episode VII is still more than a year away, so in the meantime you can get your kicks playing this game if you are a die hard fan.

I mostly got this game cause I like RPG's and I loved the cover art. Sadly, that art was nowhere to be seen in the actual game (which is fair for an 8 bit game). Luckily the dungeon crawler RPG aspect made up for it. I may be pushing it a bit giving it a 9/10 but it...

Perfect score if you get the version where Sid can put a hamster in the microwave. Almost perfect score if you play the censored version. Either way this game is incredible and we haven't seen it's like since it was made. The number of different endings and solutions...
